Gears of War

21st November 2006

After anticipating it’s launch for months, I was over the moon to finally go out and buy Gears of War for the xbox 360 on the 17th. The game is based around an inmate named Marcus Fenix who is charged with the task of keeping humanity alive from the Lucust Horde that have risen from the ground and started to kick some serious ass.

The first thing that I have to get off my chest is the fact that this game is probably the best game I have ever played. It’s got absolutely everything. The design of the game is the best I have ever seen. Smooth, crisp graphics that often look real. Massive environments and best of all, all out action game play. This evening myself and a pal completed the game and I’m quite sad about it. It’s so much fun to play, running around shooting the hell out of some of the scariest looking creatures you will ever see. Oh, and you also have a gun with a chain-saw attached to it just incase you want to get up close and personal with your enemy.

A lot of the time you spend hiding behind walls and just about anything to stop the swarm of bullets heading your way from hitting you, then poking your head up and returning the favour. There are quite a few jumpy moments and generally the enemies you face are all truly terrifying. Perhaps I’m a bit of a whimp, but I think my emotions are thoroughly justified looking at some of the creatures you come up against along with some of the noises and screeches they produce while charging frantically your way.

So if you have been considering it, I strongly advice you to go buy this game. If you don’t have an xbox 360, go buy one so you can play it. If you like shoot ‘em ups, go and buy this game. If you don’t like them, please try and like them. It’s an absolutely awesome game. So good it’s inspired me to write about it on my site! I can’t see any game anytime soon competing with this game. Roll on Halo 3.
