Home for Christmas

14th December 2006

Yesterday was my last day in Plymouth in the year 2006. We’re now back in the land of the Kernow for Christmas with my family and it’s pretty good to be back. We had an assignment that had to be in this week, which was to produce a magazine advert in Illustrator. I think mine ended up ok but I’m not particularly happy with it. All week I was putting it off due to lack of creative inspiration. In the end I did it because I had to get it done as I was being picked up on Wednesday evening. Anyhow, it’s done and thats that.

Today I spent most of the day out in the woods and the mud with a friend on the bikes, cutting out trails and knocking together a few jumps and what not. It was great to be back out on the bike. Probably the thing I have missed the most during my time at uni. I’ve also spent a bit of time playing around with Flash. I’m trying to put together both a flash and an xhtml/css version for my portfolio section of this site. Hopefully I will be able to pull off the ideas I have in my head. I’m not setting any sort of deadline for this as I will be going through bit of a learning curve and exploring different directions. It should be good fun though.

In 2007 I’m hoping to really give flash a go and get stuck into some new work and use it more. I’ve always wanted to learn it but have never got motivated enough to really push myself. Well now that its part of my university course it seems a good idea to really do something with it and hopefully give myself a good chance in the modules. I’m quite excited and hopefully we will be seeing some interesting projects over the next year.

We’re still currently working on our interactive movie posters, which I’m pleased with how its shaping up. Next term we are doing some cool stuff and integrating flickr photos with flash. The user will enter keywords into a textfield, click go and then hey presto. The flash application will search flickr and return photos that have been tagged with these keywords. It’s a nice idea and I’m looking forward to doing it. Other areas I would like to explore with flash are things such as database integration, which I think will be a really handy thing to master. We’ll have to see.

So there you go. Merry Christmas to all and hope you have a smashing new year. Please think of me when your out partying and drinking to your heart’s content as I will be sat at home taking it easy as I have the first round of the South West Centre trials championship on the 1st. Whoever thought it would be a good idea to hold it on this date needs to have a word with themselves. It’s not appreciate.

Merry Christmas.
